Updated Description[]

The Guardians’ powers are put to the ultimate test in their final battle in this conclusion to the epic chapter book series from William Joyce.

When we last saw the Guardians, they were celebrating their victory during Bright Night, the final great Battle of the Moon, where they defeated Pitch once and for all. Or so they thought. Now, many years later, the Guardians have settled into their final selves, embracing their public images and the Earth Holidays. But the world has not been without evil since Pitch’s imprisonment. First there was the World War, then The Crash which has led to what the humans call a Great Depression. All the Guardians feel the weight of these events, but Jack Frost—now half human, half of his former self Nightlight—feels it the most.

Jack’s transition from Nightlight to Guardian was not an easy one. Always inclined to keep to himself, Jack has become especially isolated from the other Guardians since his transformation. Yet it is Jack who Ombric Shalazar (once a great wizard, now known as Father Time) trusts with a tremendous secret. But for Jack to fully understand this secret, he must revisit his past—and finally tell his story.

Jack’s story, however, isn’t the only one to be reopened; an old enemy whose chapter we thought closed will reappear and with him bring a darkness and destruction that will test the Guardians like never before. It’s a battle of superlatives—the worse fighting the greatest, but where, oh where, is Jack?[2]

Plot[]

It is Christmas Eve, 1933 and Jack Frost was in his favorite place: his tree, the oldest tree in Central Park, New York City. Just before he would go meet up with the Guardians, he felt a dull ache in his left hand where he had a scar from where Pitch's blood had come in contact, though he tried to ignore it and grab Twiner his staff, the pain in his hand became worse, warning Jack that Pitch or his forces posing a threat. He went to his secret cabinet, where he kept diamond daggers that he created when his Nightlight. One dagger was incomplete and was different from the others. This dagger was from Pitch's tears and had one purpose alone. Jack haven't completed that dagger and yet now in his heart, he feels that it time for him to use it. Putting the dagger in its sheath and slipping on his blue hoodie, he starts to set out to the North Pole. After wishing Merry Christmas to the squirrels living in the tree, his left hand throbbed again and the winds suddenly changed and Twiner became a bow and arrow. Nightmare men had arrived and launched more than a dozen arrows at Jack. The tree moved its branched and blocked most of the arrows, leaving one struck nearly an inch away from Jack's head. The arrows were coal black and had an oily shine and Jack had last seen them when he was Nightlight and they were used in the Battle of Bright Night, his last battle against Pitch. Jack released one of his own arrows and it split into multiple shafts and they struck every Nightmare men present and all is quiet again. Looking upon the arrow that nearly harmed him, Jack went to the North Pole with new urgency, knowing that the attack was Pitch enacting a long-festering plan of revenge.

At the North Pole, Katherine with Kailash, anxiously watching the sky for Jack, while everyone was busy with Christmas preparations and deliveries. As amazed as she was with everything coming together despite all the chaos going at the Pole, Katherine was worried about Jack. She knew that he was in trouble and trouble was deep.

Elsewhere, deep beneath Big Root at Santoff Claussen, Pitch was furious of being imprisoned for more than a hundred years since the Battle of Bright Night. Though he is imprisoned, his influence over his force still exist and the Earth had many places where shadows and gloom can give refuge to the darkness. His daughter, Emily Jane, had betrayed him and had evolved into her calling as Mother Nature. Though she remained neutral throughout the early Nightmare wars, she now is using her powers to keep him confined. Even without their master, the Nightmare men have become more organized and fed on the fear that has been spreading in the world. Pitch hated Nightlight for knowing his weakness: the remains of his humanity in his heart. His long laid plan for revenge on Nightlight, now known as Jack Frost, was set in motion and ready to be let loose. Somewhere in the world, Lampwick and his partner, Blandim, armed with instructions from Pitch are heading out to fulfill their mission to find, to trap, and with further instruction, bring an end to the threat of Jack Frost's power.

At the North Pole, the Guardians have noticed that Jack has kept his distance more so than in previous years and this year has been uneasy with deliveries since millions adults have lost everything with the Great Depression and children struggling to keep their faith. After the deliveries, the Guardians meet up and can see that Jack is there but he is more worried than ever. The older Guardians discussed about what is going in the world and feared that another war may happen and hope they could help the children stay strong and not lose belief. Ombric or now known as Father Time, appeared briefly and managed to mentally send a message only to Jack and disappeared. After some silence from Jack, he tells Katherine that needs a story from her and together, Jack and Katherine went on Kailash and left the North Pole and went to Ganderly, her treehouse estate.

On the way to Ganderly, Katherine remembered when she and Nightlight were together last time and their kiss, which awakened her from the eternal nightmare that Pitch put her in. That kiss changed them and Nightlight went away for more than a century, but Katherine never lose faith in seeing him again. In the winter of 1890, she and the other Guardians heard of a white-haired, untamed youth, who varied in age and left a mark on all who met him. His exploits became legendary and he was identified as Jackson Overland Frost. Katherine first suspected that Jack was Nightlight transformed based on similar qualities, but it was the varying age that stood out. After Nightlight left, Katherine grew up like any girl until sixteen when she discovered that she can age back to twelve whenever she thinks of Nightlight and when she entered her twenties, her aging stopped entirely. The Guardians noticed this and figured that the kiss from Nightlight had turned her from a mortal earth girl to a Golden Age woman. Since that discovery, she figured if that kiss changed her like that, it would be the same for Nightlight when reports of Jack Frost flooded in. He attends many events and meets many famous people, but will always make time for children and possessed a staff that has many abilities. One night in London, however, confirmed that Jack Frost was indeed Nightlight. He was leaving the Athenuem club with some friends, Winston Churchill, J. R. Kipling, and J.M. Barrie, when he saw some poor children begging for money, and after the adults ignored them, Jack became invisible and secretly started a snowball fight between the adults and the children. As time passed, more people joined in on both sides, until everyone was exhausted and laughing a lot. They went their separate ways and Jack reappeared and as he admired his handiwork, he felt pain in his left hand and saw Nightmare men in a side street and quickly disappear and went to the North Pole, but gave no explanation to anyone about his absence or change of name for years.

The pair arrived to Ganderly and proceeded on their way to the Great Library, where there are books of every children's story known and Mr Qwerty, the living book, appeared and opened to Jack's story at Katherine's command. Jack told Katherine that Ombric only told one word: remember and he believe there may be a clue in the story. As Katherine started reading, the Guardians and MiM became aware of the story and listened to it. Unknown to everyone, however, Pitch was also eavesdropping on the story, hoping to find something that help him destroy the Guardians forever.

Flashback[]

Katherine started reading about after the kiss, and that after the celebration of the creation of the North Pole and defeating Pitch's plan, Nightlight fell asleep and dream for the first time. Him and Katherine were asleep in the topmost room at the pole. However, it was a trick for Pitch fooled North and the Guardians to create the North Pole and put his real plan into action. He knew that the tallest tower where Katherine and Nightlight are sleeping in was also a ship, so after sneaking out of the nightmare rock that Katherine was on, dragging it to the pole, he commandeered the ship, and flew to the moon with Nightlight and Katherine in tow. Passing the Dark Side of the Moon, he left the ship with the rock and when he landed in the Moon's Shadowlands, he started creating his new army. Nightlight and Katherine were unaware of all this and woke up being greeted by Man in the Moon himself. During their time on the moon before the Battle of Bright Night, Nightlight and Katherine explored the Moon and as time passed, the moonstones on Nightlight's uniform came off and Katherine collected each one as they fell and put them in a pouch the MiM provided, saying that she will become the keeper of his past. Nightlight then explained his dream to Katherine, which has him, not as a Nightlight, but as a human boy with a loving home and a family.

Soon reports of Pitch's army appeared and that the Earth was covered in dark storm clouds, preventing any communication with the Guardians. The Moon made preparations for the upcoming battle against Pitch. More distressing news came as Moonbeams had trouble getting through the storm surrounding the Earth and the few that managed to get through said that four of the five Lunar Relics were stolen from the separate strongholds of each Guardian. MiM became concerned that if Pitch obtains the final relic, he will be able to vanquish the Guardians and the Moon itself would be doomed. MiM led Katherine and Nightlight to his late parents' old quarters and explained that Nightlight was the final and most powerful relic of the Golden Age, since they possess the energy of a star. Nightlight wasn't scared and knew what to do, so MiM led them to his childhood bedroom and Nightlight lays on his bed while MiM spreads Nightlight's dreamsand on his brow and falls asleep instantly. As he sleeps, rays of light radiate from him and filling the room. The Moonmice went on a secret mission to locate Pitch's headquarter and although MiM told her that she cannot go because of the danger and the fact that she was too big to fit into the little ship, Katherine became little through Moonmice's shrinking ray, and went with them along with Nightlight's moonbeam. As they traveled across the dark side of the Moon, they discovered Pitch's craft, which appears a large black spider and within it, Pitch and at the center of his control room was the four stolen Lunar relics encased within dark matter, the material in the nightmare rock was made from. After discovering this, the crew of Moonmice, Katherine and Moonbeam quickly went back to MiM and on the way, there were waves of light in the sky and were coming from Nightlight. After reversing the effects of the shrinking ray, Katherine went with MiM to check on Nightlight and he was still asleep and he wasn't glowing like he used to. Just when MiM suggested that they should let him continue to dream, alarms went off and Pitch and his army were quickly approaching the Ten Bluffs, MiM's base. Soon, MiM ordered the attack and a fierce battle had begun. As Pitch's craft came closer, Katherine pointed out to MiM the imprisoned relics and that Pitch was preparing to fire their combined light on them. The moon mirrors reflected the attack, but the craft leaped out of the way and landed on the wall nearest to MiM and Katherine.

The battle became more intense and there was a stand off between MiM and Pitch, each refusing to stand down. While MiM claims that Pitch will never get Nightlight, Pitch rebuffs saying that he will succeed and rid his heart of what remains of the light within him and says that he doesn't fear MiM or any star. Suddenly, Nightlight appeared, though his appearance has changed: his uniform was gone and he was dressed in a blue hooded shirt and brown leggings with no shoes at all. Armed with his diamond dagger with the moonbeam within, Nightlight prepared to attack and Pitch aimed his cannon at him, but before he can fire, he stopped. Behind everyone on the moon was the Guardians arriving on airships with their respective armies and that Ombric was using his powers to slow down time. Using that ability, Ombric went in between the cannon fire and Nightlight and fanned out his cloak to create a near-perfect circle that shielded everyone and the Guardians regained their sense of time while in front of Ombric everything was growing slower. Nightlight lifted his dagger into the air and in a fraction of a second, he vanished. Pitch continued to fire the ray and Ombric struggled against it and seemed to disintegrate in the light. Then suddenly, a even brighter light filled the sky and all fighting stopped and Pitch was suddenly afraid of what was coming. The light split into seven points like the stars, but more radiant than the brightest star. It was none other the Seven Star of the Nightlights and they arranged themselves to appear as a giant face and it spoke with a voice so deep and full that you can feel as you can hear it. They exclaimed that their brother, Nightlight, will not belong to Pitch and that they had enough of his schemes and their light came upon the Nightmare armies, melting them and molding them into clots that encircled Pitch and condensed and calcified until they became dark matter. A strand of light broke the relic weapon and set free the relics which returned to their respective owners. The molten darkness engulfed Pitch until only his face and chest were left and although he struggled, Pitch was able to free one of his hands, it was the one which still has the locket with Emily Jane's cameo attached to it and he placed his hand over his heart. Pitch begged North to use the sword and put an end to his life and though everyone felt pity for him, the Seven Stars of the Nightlights were not, for they can see through evil tricks and death was not the answer for him. Not taking Pitch's begging anymore, North took his sword and thrust it forward, it pierce through the cameo, then his hand, the flesh of his chest, but before it could touch his heart, it was stopped suddenly by another hand, Nightlight's hand. He held the blade so hard, that his hand bled and told North not to end the one chance Pitch has to save his soul from the darkness. When the sword was moved away, black blood oozed from the paper of the cameo. Pitch's blood and it was mixing with Nightlight's and it went all over the paper and it somehow restored Emily Jane's cameo back to the way it was. Everyone watched as the dark matter began to twine over Pitch's face and chest and Pitch wept silently with tears as clear as crystals. Using his wounded hand, Nightlight dabbed Pitch's tears and clutch them tightly, forming a new dagger and placed it in his shirt before anyone can look upon it. Nightlight turned and taking the hands of MiM and Katherine, he told them that he must go see the rest of his moondream play through and that he is to go on a journey and he did not know when he will see them again. He assure them though that they will see him again and that they must trust and believe his words. Everyone nodded and the dark matter surrounding Pitch was complete and Nightlight went on top of the prison and looked up at the sky towards the Nightlight constellation and many waves of light braided together like a rope around the sphere and it carried the prison and Nightlight to the earth like a comet.

Back in the present day[]

Katherine finished reading asked if it helped remember what he needed and Jack responded that it did a little, but it was his turn to do the telling since he know things that are not in Mr. Qwerty's pages and time was limited. The firewood had informed Jack that were about to be some unwanted company arriving to Ganderly. Katherine told him that her Raconturks are on guard and will protect them, but Jack says they are fine for now. Jack now prepares himself to tell Katherine and fill the pages of his story about how his long absence, his journey, and how he taken the name Jack Frost and why.

Flashback[]

Jack explained that when he came to the earth with imprisoned Pitch, his friends from Santoff Claussen and Pitch's daughter, Emily Jane was there waiting to help him. Mother Nature used her powers to fashion a prison beneath Big Root for Pitch and it was revealed that she created the storm to trick her father into thinking that she severed communication with the Guardians, when in reality, she was secretly helping the Guardians plan their rescue mission. Emily Jane sensed that her father's blood was now flowing in Nightlight's veins and they were bound together almost like a brother and sister and in a way Nightlight had a family, one belonged by blood. The people of Santoff Claussen were instructed that if the Guardians did not return from the battle, Mother Nature would be in charge in keeping the village safe. Emily Jane gathered everyone in the village explained that they need to work together to keep Pitch from escaping his prison, but in her heart, she hoped that one day that her father will find redemption and return to her. As Nightlight prepared to leave and finish his moondream, Emily Jane warned him that since he and Pitch are connected, who knows what will happen if Nightlight's goodness will affect Pitch or if Pitch's darkness would shadow him. She assures Nightlight that she will help him however she can, but he needs to leave and not be discovered for the dagger that he has hidden in his pocket is what her father fears the most. Nightlight left to the where the final part of his moondream has shown, which was a farm and a boy named Jack lived. As he traveled, Nightlight was watched over by his brothers, the Nightlights and his old friend, MiM and yet he can no longer communication mentally with the Guardians for his old powers were at their weakest and who knew if they would return again.

On the way to the farm of his moondream, Nightlight learned the ways and language of animals and insects alike and every night, he would dream many great dreams. One night, however, he woke from his dream to a dull pain from the hand that was injured saving Pitch and the wind picked up, warning him that Pitch was reaching out and danger was approaching. The pain in his hand got worse as the danger got closer and Nightlight suddenly received help from a man made of sticks named Twiner, a creation of North. No sooner that Twiner appeared, he turned into a staff and helped Nightlight leap out of the way from the danger, which was a giant serpent known as the Lermontoff Serpent. During the fight, Nightlight discovered that his powers didn't disappear, but rather evolved in a way with increased speed and sudden moments in invisibility and his staff can change into any weapon. After a while, the serpent, feeling exhausted, left and the pain in Nightlight's hand faded away. Twiner changed into a man revealed that the serpent used to be an ally of Ombric and Protector of the Valley of Lost Dreams, until Pitch turned him into a serpent and now hunts any who dreams. Pitch sent the Lermontoff Serpent after sensing Nightlight's dreams and it found him very easy. Nightlight continued his journey with Twiner by his side and through him, learned the language of everything in the natural world. Twiner took Nightlight's right hand and a piece of himself in it, connecting him to every tree that grows and that he is their sovereign lord and friend.

One day, they came upon a wild landscape and for some reason the trees and animals do not speak to them and seem to aligned with someone. Nightlight was able to obtain one word from one of the animals: Shadowbent and when acquiring who or what Shadowbent is, a figure appeared. The figure removed his hood and revealed to be a werewolf named Skreevlick Shadowbent, king of the werewolves, and he was not there to harm Nightlight, but to welcome him to his land. Shadowbent led Nightlight and Twiner to his castle where he made sure that Nightlight was fed and explained his connection to the Moon. Though he is werewolf, he and his brethren were men that became beasts to protect the weak and that the Moon gave them their to summon justice. Shadowbent said that through the telescope he has seen Nightlight's battle against Pitch on the moon and unlike them, Pitch was a man who became a beast and wishes to stay as one. Suddenly, pain came in Nightlight's left hand and both Twiner and the werewolves became aware that Nightmare men arrived and fired a barrage of black arrows. Shadowbent came in front of Nightlight and shielded him with his cape and the werewolves immediately attacked and destroyed the Nightmare men. Shadowbent turned to Nightlight and stated that even though Pitch was imprisoned, he will not stop sending forces after him and will do hurt Nightlight any way he can so he wouldn't hurt him again. With one of the arrows stuck in his cape, Shadowbent pointed out the pocket where the dagger was, saying that the dagger made of Pitch's tears will be his undoing, for it represents what remains of his human soul. As Nightlight was staying in Shadowbent's castle for the night, he wondered why the werewolves would want to protect him and Twiner explained that the werewolves understood the power of his dream. That he dreamed of a family he's never known and the werewolves dream of the families they have lost and his fight is their fight too. The next day, Shadowbent and his men escorted Nightlight and Twiner to the farm Nightlight had seen in his moondream, which Shadowbent knows about well and has watched over the family that lives there. Soon, they were within close distance to the farm and Nightlight knew it was time to part with Shadowbent and live his new life. Shadowbent reminded him that he would need a new name to go with his new life and they parted. Nightlight approached the farm and saw the family through the window and then he reminds himself and Twiner that he is to act as a normal human boy with no magic and Twiner is to act like a normal staff unless Nightlight says so. Soon, one of the children, a boy, saw Nightlight through the window and pointed him out to the rest of the family. The family saw him and immediately took him into the house, brushing the snow off of him and fed him some soup. The family introduced themselves as the Ardelean family with the father being Victor, the mother, Irina, and their two children, Ana and Jacklovich. When asked about his name, Nightlight said without thinking, Jack Frost, much to the joy of Jacklovich. Soon afterwords, Jack was given an old nightshirt that belong to Victor and was put to bed in a cot in the children's room, much to the children's delight. As the parents say their good nights and give their hugs and good night kisses, it stirred Jack's memories as Nightlight watching MiM's parents saying good night and giving their hugs and good night kisses to their son. They soon give Jack good night hugs and kisses for the first time in his life and Jack's dream came true.

Jack's time with the Ardelean family was the happiest times of his life. He would do the chores with Ana and Jacklovich and make like some kind of adventure out of them. After doing the chores, they went to the lake at the far-edge of the farm and swear that they will be friends forever and imagine seeing their worst fears in the lake. One night, the family were getting ready for bed like they always do and for the first time since he joined the family, Jack said the good night poem that family would recite every night before going to sleep and was truly considered part of them family. Every now and then when he was alone, he would check on Twiner and see if he is still alive, which he was. The winter days were long and spring would start coming soon, so the snow fort that Jack and the children made during the winter was starting to melt, so they try spend as much time as possible before it melted completely. One day, which unknown to Jack and the children would be their last together, started out as a ordinary day and after finishing their chores early and made their way to the fort after lunch. The sky had darkened and they thought it might snow and Ana went ahead to raise their flag, which was Jack's old blue shirt; which the three stitched white patterns on the sleeves and neck. Suddenly, Jack's left hand was in so sharp and unmistakable pain, he was on his knees. The wind turned into a gale and the werewolves appeared, warning that danger was indeed coming and the ice was creak for there was danger beneath its surface. Jack called upon Twiner to help and him and the children were then on top the fort just before the Lermontoff Serpent burst through the ice and many Nightmare men surrounded the snow fort. Seeing the werewolves in a distance, Jack waved to Shadowbent and pointing out Jacklovich and Ana, Shadowbent knew what to do. Jack went down, armed with Twiner and unleashed his power upon the shadows and the serpent. However, the enemy went through the ice and was heading to the fort where the children were. Shadowbent and his wolves surrounded and with a burst of wind Jack went to the fort ahead the shadows and told Jacklovich and Ana that his is their brother and friend always and after giving them one final hug, Shadowbent scoop up the children and took them away with his men. One of the nightmare men told Jack that Pitch will let him live, but kill anyone Jack cares about, which made Jack realize that since he is linked to Pitch, he was able to sense anyone Jack's bonded with and can send his nightmare men to attack them. Seeing that Shadowbent, his wolves, and the children are safe in the forest, Jack uses Twiner to unleash a powerful ice attack that decimated the nightmare men and the serpent and making sure that Pitch was feeling the pain, his ice sliced the nightmare men to ribbons and the serpents had many deep wounds. As the snow fort collapsed into the water and the serpent clamped unto Jack, he stabbed it with his dagger, ending its life. Jack allowed himself to sink into the freezing water and for a long time, he stayed there. He wanted Pitch to believe that he was dead so that he wouldn't hurt anyone he loved. The only thing he took down with him in the water was their flag, his blue shirt, and held it tight. For a hundred years, he remained there, forcing himself to forget everything, not letting Pitch have any way of tracking Jack or anyone that he loved. One day, he returned to world with no memories, knew that he was different and had powers. Twiner kept his past a secret, but stitched onto the blue shirt three names: Jacklovich, Ana, and Jack Frost. Jack took the name that felt right and went on his journey and it would take years to remember his friends until that one night in London when the nightmare men tracked him after that snowball fight. It was then he remembered everything and knew that the diamond dagger will be used someday the next time he faces Pitch.

Back in present time[]

Katherine looks upon Jack's hand and finally understands why Jack kept his distance: it was to protect her and everyone he cared about. Katherine asked him if he knew what to do and Jack nodded and took out the dagger made from Pitch's tears and then asked if Katherine kept the jewels from his Nightlight uniform to which Katherine said yes. Suddenly, a loud ruckus occurred outside the library and the alarms went off. Jack calmly asked her if she had them with her and took out the pouch that she wore around her neck and gave him the jewels. Jack placed each jewel in their proper slots on the dagger, completing it and the two of them left the library. Outside the library, the Raconturks were fighting against warrior monkeys, which Katherine and Jack haven't seen since the Battle of Punjam Hy Loo. Katherine had the Raconturks use their power words and the monkeys were pushed back by the power of their words. As they came to the balcony, Katherine and Jack can see that the Isle of Ganderly was entirely under attack by monkeys and above them was the Monkey King, now known as Lampwick and his partner Blandim, ready to fulfill their master's orders. Blandim tried to trick Katherine and Jack to touch one of his silk creations, but Jack knew better and prevented Katherine from touching it, knowing that the silk was made of acid and it sizzled away. Unfortunately for Lampwick and Blandim, too late for Jack had completed the dagger and revealed it to them. Demonstrating the connection between him and Pitch through the scar and the threat of the dagger, Jack cut his hand on the scar and black blood oozed out of it and instantly, The entire monkey army, Lampwick, and Blandim felt pain their chests. This confirmed that Pitch's forces are connected to his heart and the dagger being made of his tears, can hurt him as no weapon ever forged and if he can feel pain, his minions can feel it too. Although the dagger caused them pain, it hurts Pitch a thousand fold and the ground began to quake. Pitch was in pain and he was angry and as soon as Jack took the dagger away from his hand, the shaking stopped and Pitch's minions were no longer clutching their chest and their breathing was more relaxed. Jack then offered the dagger to Lampwick and Blandim to see if they want to take it from him and when Blandim touched it, an explosion occurred and the dagger returned to Jack's hand and Blandim shrunk to a maggot. Lampwick realized that only Jack can use the dagger and then Jack grabbed Lampwick, telling him that he intends to face Pitch for one final battle and he would know the destination. After releasing Lampwick, Jack turns to Katherine and asks her to have her Raconturks to send the monkey army faraway to the other side of the world, to which it happened.

In his prison, Pitch heard everything that happened between Jack and Katherine and was furious about he was tricked by Jack and his fury was felt throughout Santoff Claussen. The people of Santoff Claussen was prepared to take action, but the shaking stopped suddenly and that frightened everyone. Mother Nature listened to the wind and leaves and relayed their message to the people that they were to stand down and release Pitch from his prison on order of Jack Frost. Mother Nature and the Spirit of the Forest were also to rally the fairy nations to escort Pitch and his army to a castle in Transylvania. Immediately, Spirit of the Forest called upon the fairy nations and prepared to escort the Nightmare King to the destination.

On top of the world, the Guardians, North, Toothiana, Bunnymund, and Sandy, were gathered together to discussed the recent events for they heard the stories that Jack and Katherine shared. They thought Jack was crazy in having Pitch freed from his prison and his army going to a castle in Transylvania, but the same time, they had underestimated Jack and believed that he has a plan in mind. Knowing their enemy and where the battle will be taking place they got up from their seats and went to Transylvania.

On the moon, MiM was in his childhood bedroom, reminiscing on his childhood with his parents and his dear friend, Nightlight. Knowing though Nightlight has changed in name and in appearance, one thing about him stayed the same: Jack was the bravest boy that ever existed.

Somewhere in between the tick and the tock, Ombric is still recovering from the events that had occurred and believed that Jack would know what to do.

Back in Santoff Claussen, Pitch was released from his prison and the darkness shaped into his army and his daughter, Mother Nature, led them to the surface where he was shocked seeing that no one was afraid of him and without a word, Pitch and his army took flight with the fairy armies and his daughter escorting him to Transylvania. Unknown to everyone, Pitch had one last trick up his sleeve for Jack revealed something in his story to Katherine that he intended to use against him.

In Transylvania, the Guardians, Jack, Katherine, and Shadowbent gathered around hear Jack's plan. Revealing the dagger for the first time to the Guardians, he explains that Pitch intends to destroy him so he can render the dagger useless and destroy the Guardians. The dagger moved, pointing to the direction of where Pitch was and his hatred has become so strong that it can affect the purest good, as shown when Katherine's compass needle went south after pointing to North. Soon, all the Guardians and their armies go to their positions. They soon see Pitch's army approaching with Mother Nature near them and the Guardians raised their relics together, but Tooth senses her old enemy, the Monkey King nearby and up to something bad, so with permission, Tooth went, but was told not to attack until he gives the signal. As Pitch's army got closer, Emily Jane struggled to control her father and his army as they descend to the castle. Jack maintained his gaze upon Pitch and remembered everything in his past with Pitch and Emily Jane and the fairy armies were being forced back by Pitch and taking advantage of that, his Nightmare men pulled out their spears and bows. Feeling the blistering pain in his left hand again, Jack holds his hand out for Pitch to see and concentrating his energy he attempts to feel and know what Pitch was up to. As he was doing that, the temperature in the area dropped, becoming more frigid, countering against the heat of Pitch's hatred. Everyone was poised and ready for Jack's signal. Jack continued to try to figure out what Pitch was planning and then he saw an image of Ardelean family farm and suddenly felt pain so intense, he almost fell off the balcony. He learned from Shadowbent that Ana and Jacklovich had grown up and had families of their own and having at least one boy named Jack and every year, they celebrated Jack's birthday, which they chose to be the day that he said the good night poem. Jack suddenly sees that the cabin was surrounded by Lampwick's army of monkeys and Pitch spoke to him mentally saying that he didn't forget his adopted family and had been waiting the right time to use them against him. Jack sees inside the cabin that the family of five were held by monkeys and Blandim was attempting to use his acid silk trick on the children. Seeing what was happening, Jack sent a call to Tooth to strike now and just as Pitch blinded the Guardians with his wave of light made from his hate, Jack took his dagger in his good hand and stabbed his scarred hand through the center of the scar. Pitch felt it immediately and he fell to the ground and his army went down too, but not before releasing their arrows, but since Pitch went down the arrows became so brittle that snowflakes can break him. The red light made from his hatred disappeared and the sky returned to normal and the light of the moon made the nightmare men faded away.

At the same time, Twiner went to the Ardelean cabin and accurately shot an arrow that destroyed Blandim acid silk creations and Tooth went through the roof and landed on top of Blandim, squishing him. She then sliced off all eight legs of her ancient enemy and soon Lampwick and his armies turned to dust.

Katherine went to look for Jack and she finds him kneeling over Pitch and Emily Jane was kneeling next to him too, holding the hand that held her cameo. The Guardians gathered around the fallen Pitch and watched his final moments unfold. Jack pulled the dagger out of his hand and placed that hand over Pitch's heart. He then raise his raise his dagger in the air and it started to melt and reverted back to Pitch's tears and they landed on Jack's scarred hand. The wound healed and the dagger dissolved completely, even the jewels from his Nightlight uniform became liquid. Every teardrop that ran from Jack's hand was soaked into Pitch's chest and as the last tear drops vanished, a transformation had occurred. Gone was the twisted grimace and sickly pallor of Pitch's face and in its place, was the softened and smoothed face of Kozmotis Pitchiner, his original identity and Emily Jane's father. The Guardians who gathered, kneeled in respect for Lord Pitchiner. Snow continued to fall from the sky, but none touched Pitch's face and it was representing Jack mourning his old enemy. Jack said that he did his best for Pitch and Emily Jane assures him that he kept his promise to her. Katherine can see that the two are like brother and sister and neither would exist without Pitch.

Jack decided to show the Guardians his other family, the Ardeleans. Everyone boarded North's sleigh and flew to the cabin, where Twiner and Tooth were waiting for them. Jack got out of the sleigh and approached the cabin and gazed through the window like he did many years ago. The door opened and a boy, thin, willowy, and wild-haired, came out. Jack saw him and saw Jacklovich in the boy and that boy recognized Jack as the boy they were to remember. The boy took Jack's hand, the one that had been scarred, but now healed, and pulled him inside. Jack asked him what he was told and the boy answered that he was Jack Frost and that he saved their family and would come back someday and also that they should always believe in him, even if they never see him. Jack asked if they did and the children said that they believed, bringing a smile out of the Guardians recognizing the first lesson Ombric gave in magic which was to believe. Before Jack entered the house, he holds out his hand to Katherine, wanting her to come and see how his story ends. Katherine smiled, hopped out of the sleigh and as she took his hand, a thought came to mind that this was the beginning of his story, not the end. The Guardians and Shadowbent left in the sleigh, knowing that if they need Jack and Katherine, they know where they can find them. As they left, the Guardians had the same thought: No matter what may happen, through time and tide, through thick and thin, children will always believe.
